Zoe's always a chatterbox. Todays conversation went something like this:

*Zoe looking through her picture book of Kira.*

"I'm reading this book to you."
"This just says Kira"
"Yes, honey, it's just a picture book."
"Why is Kira's name so short?"
"That's just how you spell Kira."
"Noooo, her name should be also Rose Jacobus Redding." (Zoe's name)
"ohhh. Well that's your name. Everyone has a different name. What should the rest of Kira's name be?"
*doesn't take ANY time to think* "Kira Pumpernickel Rose Jacobus Redding Jr."

So there you have it folks! Our cat's full name. ;-p

Zoe is a chatty, chatty girl sometimes. Especially in the car. After we drop her off at school I feel like I've just run a mile. *whew*

She's starting to learn concepts of "science." This week was "air." She can understand a concept fully, but then for a couple of weeks she'll ask questions, over and over again, to confirm.

"Air is everywhere" she says, but then asks "Is it in the house?"
"Is it in the car?"
"Is it in the forest?"
"Is it in the trees?"
"Y... Actually..."

So then I explain how the trees "make" air that we can breathe, and we give back air to the trees. To which she exclaims a squee of delight and says "OH! Thank you trees!"

A little bit later she's breathing deeply and slowly.
"What are you doing Zoe?"
"I'm talking to the trees!" (She says this with "duh" tone. LOL!)

For a sadder story, boys are mean )

A few weeks ago, Zoe was swinging around this Skeleton-on-a-string that she got for Halloween. Naturally, Cheetahmaster told her to stop. At which point she put her hands on her hips and said: "But I was only pretending to be a pirate!"
To which, the response was "But you were really swinging that around! Only real pirates are allowed to do that."
So she says, "Well, how can I be a real pirate then?"
For some reason, I just blurted out: "You have to go to pirate school when you grow up."

Now, every time we ask her what she wants to do when she grows up, she says: "I want to go to pirate school." (& kind of looks at us begrudgingly.) LOL

Also, it's camera-cleaning time! Random photo dump: )

As promised, Pictures!

Before we left for VA, I was telling her about what we were going to do. She didn't believe me. Here's 'that look' )

The first day at grandmas:
The dress up bin comes out... )

Silliness with a wig... )

Zoe doesn't have much of a yard regularly, but grandma's got a few acres.... The girls had a great time running around outside and playing in the woods.

Mom takes the girls for a walk to collect treasures from the woods: )

Playing on the Swing )

Trinity and Zoe learn to use the hose... )

When the girls are away, the adults will play:

Here's me and Trevor whooping Dave and Cecily's butt in Spades: )

The next night we had sparklers, and some little "fireworks" for the kids:

The 'fireworks' were loud: )

The sparklers were a hit, though: )

The last day, it was just us and grandma.

Zoe lines up all her toys and plays teacher: )

Zoe teaches grandma too: )

She also got a chance to play with her other new friend, Shaman. )

Then it was off to my parent's house.

We had some real fireworks, this time: )

Zoe was a bit scared, at first: )

Then just trepidatious: )

Then, she loved them! )

She even asked, at one point, to hold the Roman Candles we were setting off!
Instead, we gave her more sparklers: )

The next day, my mom and I took Zoe to the Nature Center...

Zoe was very excited about the snakes: )

and totally bummed that she couldn't pet them: )

She could pet the turtles, however: )

& She got very excited over the Owls and Birds: )

That IS an Eagle )

I think he wanted to eat her. )

The Nature Center also had a play area.

Which had a cave for exploration: )

Then we took her to the neighboring park. )

Then we took her for a ride on the paddleboats: )

Then we stopped for some HUGE Dora-shaped ice cream: )

After such a long day, she didn't want to go to sleep, but curled up in my dad's lap grumpily: )

She's been very good to me today.

Paul was working today, so I had to wake up with Zoe this morning... and I was out late last night. She knows, when she wakes up before us, that she's not supposed to leave the bedroom until we're awake. Today, she was being nice to me, and decided not to wake me up. So, instead, she climbed into bed with me and curled up in a ball putting her nose up to mine, trying sooo hard to be quiet and let me sleep.... but her little body couldn't contain her excitement, and she's started shaking with anticipation. It, of course, woke me up... but it was soo sweet of her to try so hard... In fact, she was trying so hard that when I opened my eyes she let out a squeal of relief. hee!

And while I'm talking about Zoe....

This past weekend, we all went to my Grandmother's house for the 4th of July. One evening we put the little girls in the back room to watch a movie and color, so that the adults could watch Munich. Cecily had brought these soft crayons, kind of like pastels, for them to color with, so they were having a grand time. We would go back and check on them, every 10 minutes or so. About halfway through the movie, I go back to find THIS )

When I asked her why, she said: "Because I wanted a tattoo!"

*sigh* I missed the rest of the movie to dole out the bath-sentence-of-doom! ;-)

More pictures of the weekend, coming soon. :-)
